Many kids wish to have learned about making money and managing their finances at an earlier stage of their lives. They thought that it would have been a lot easier for them today if they have learned about managing their finances yesterday. This sentiment is what made many parents encourage their children to try to make money during their spare time.

Finding a suited ‘job’ for kids is not easy though. As parents, it is our responsibility to make sure that the job they take on won’t interfere with their studies and won’t cause them harm in any way. Tons of options are available but filtering through them to find a job that’ll suit your child’s abilities and availability can be difficult so we’ve listed the best ones below;

Lemonade stand

This may not be a unique option, but it has been tried and tested. The price of lemonade may have already gone up but the ‘summer lessons’ it brings are still as valuable as ever. This is the type of job that you can entrust to kids that are still too young to follow very detailed instructions.

Pet Sitting

Pet sitting teaches responsibility as babysitting does. For children who are still too young to watch over other kids, pet sitting is a great alternative. Just make sure that the kid genuinely loves animals to ensure that they’ll accomplish three things from the experience: learn, earn and enjoy!

Sell Online

This is a new alternative that we’d like to include in this article for many reasons; (1) it is an option that really teaches kids about earning money because it can lead to a legitimate business if ran properly, (2) adults are earning full time income from selling goods online while working on it on part time; kids can do the same, and (3) online selling encourages creativity as kids can sell products that they’ve designed and created themselves.

Blog

Many of us remember keeping diaries when we were still young. Our kids may have the same desire to document everyday experiences and their feelings— if so, encourage them to keep a blog. A blog will not only help kids improve their writing skills, but is also a viable option to earn money online.

Perform a quick search on Google about make money blogging and you’ll see how many people earn money from their blogs. The key is to allow your kids to write freely. Genuinely written content attracts traffic and traffic attracts money making opportunities such as advertising offers on your kid’s blog.

Family Business

Involving your kids in your family business won’t only allow them to make money— the experience will also make them aware of the work ethics that your family values. And since they’re still young, you can make them assume responsibilities in operations. This’ll allow them to see how the business works as a whole.

For example, if your family business is in the food industry, you can ask them to work for the business as food servers. And if the family doesn’t own a business yet, consider putting up one to help your kids make money on their spare time. Selling homemade soaps and accessories won’t require much start up capital and allows for kids participation.

These are just few of the many options that you have to help your kids make money and learn to manage their finances. You are free to choose any of them. Just keep in mind that the experience is not entirely about making money but is also about the lessons they’ll learn in the process.
